Community Health Program

Mobile Clinics, Free Health camps and Free eye camps
Anatha Ashram places much emphasis on extending preventive and curative health services to villages which have no or limited access to health care facilities.

Anatha Ashram, therefore is engaged in the following main village out-reach activities.

Mobile Clinics:  Mobile clinics are heald in remote villages with no medical facility.  A doctor and nurse team travel in Anantha Ashram's vehicle to attend patient.  The vehicle is designed as a mobile clinic and the patient are attended inside the vehicle giving them better privacy and a clean environment.  The vehicle is also used for other purposes such as Polio Vaccination compaing and as an ambulance.

Free Health Camps:  Free health camps such as school health, dental health, medical chekup for women and children are also held in villages from time to time.

Free Eye Camps:  Free eye camps are conducted by our ophthalmologists under a program to prevent blindness in target areas.  Cataract surgeries are done in the Anantha Ashram's Eye center.

Out-patient clinics are held in some key villages so that people in the surrounding rural communities could have easy access to medical care.

Training of community health volunteers is another important activity.  Selected women from targeted villages are given training to provide basic primary health care in their own villages.  They are trained to give first aid, simple remedies for fever, diarrhoes etc., and refer the ill to the main hospital.

Needs for Community Health Program

  • The cost of holding 100 mobile clinics and health camps in a year is Rs 450,000 or USD 11,250
  • Training 15 new community health volunteers and providing support for another 30 trained CHVs to give basic health care in villages cost annually around Rs 100,000 or USD 2,500 
  • Funds for free catract operations is each catarct surgery for the poor costs Rs 4,000 or USD 100.  At present this service totally depends on donations from well-wishers.
